Update: Statement des Costa Rican Tourism Board zum Thema Grenzschließung wegen Covid-19

San José, Costa Rica, 22.04.2020

Border Closure Has Been Extended
The Costa Rican health authorities have taken the information regarding the worldwide spread of the COVID-19 pandemic very seriously and have implemented the necessary protocols to control the spread of the virus in the country, which is why the Decree to close the borders to prevent the entry of foreigners has been extended until May 15.
We also remind Costa Ricans and residents of the new regulations emitted by the General Directorate of Migration and Aliens:
1. Refrain from leaving the national territory; do not travel.
2. If you must leave Costa Rica due to force majeure, the General Directorate of Migration and Aliens will prevent you from entering the country.
3. If you leave or enter through an unlicensed point, your immigration status will be cancelled.
In addition, Costa Ricans who leave the country and return, will be fined an amount equivalent to a base salary and will receive a health order to isolate for 14 days.
If a foreigner’s/traveler’s Tourist Visa expired or is about to expire and they entered the country after December 17, 2019, their stay has been automatically extended until May 17, 2020. They must not report to the General Directorate of Migration and Aliens to request an extension.
