The\nUnited Kingdom retains its position as Costa Rica\u2019s second largest source\nmarket in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This steady growth is a reflection of the\nupward trend in UK visitors to Costa Rica that has been seen in the last few\nyears, enhanced by the launch of the BA direct flights from London to San Jos\u00e9,\nCosta Rica\u2019s capital city, in April 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other European countries that have seen an\nincrease in visitors in 2019 are Germany (80,580; +8.1%), France (77,013; +4%),\nSpain (69,745; +1.6%) and Italy (30,196; +3.5%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rob Wilson, UK Representative of ICT, comments on the\nfigures: \u201cWe are thrilled to see how UK travellers continue to choose Costa\nRica as one of their preferred holiday destinations in Central America. The tiny\ncountry delights and surprises people every time they visit: from adrenaline-rush\nadventures to wellness and relaxation, without forgetting the nature and wildlife,\nwhich is built into Costa Rica\u2019s DNA. The country\u2019s dedication to sustainable\ntourism is also a key driver for today\u2019s traveller.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In total, Costa Rica welcomed 3,139,008 worldwide\nvisitors in 2019, a 4.1% upsurge compared to 2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having been chosen as one of the world\u2019s Top\nTen Countries for travel in 2020 by Lonely Planet\u2019s annual <em>Best in Travel<\/em> guide, Costa Rica offers visitors an abundance of\nunique wildlife, landscapes and climates.
